Taio Cruz
Jacob Taio Cruz was born on April 23, 1983 in London, England, to a Nigerian father and Brazilian mother. He signed his first record deal at the age of 19 and initially began making his first steps in the music industry as a co-songwriter for Pop Idol winner Will Young’s “Your Game”. The song earned Young a Brit Award for Best British Single in 2005.
Around the same time, in 2006, Taio Cruz made first efforts as a solo musician and released the single “I Just Wanna Know” from his own label Rockstarr Music London. The song not only was a chart success, but also earned him a major record deal with Island Records. He subsequently released his first full-length album “Departure” in 2008, from which songs like “I Can Be” and “She’s Like A Star” were released. The album received very many positive reviews.
Prior to the release of his second album, Cruz successfully worked as a songwriter for British musicians like Cheryl Cole and Tinchy Stryder (“Never Leave You”). “Never Leave You” even topped the British Music Charts.
But the final international breakthrough for Taio Cruz came in 2010 with the following single releases “Break Your Heart”, feat. Ludacris, and “Dynamite”, which exploded on the global music charts and in the club-scenes everywhere from Ibiza to NYC and back to London, and catapulted him to ultimate stardom.
The appendant, critically acclaimed, album “Rockstarr” was an international success and enabled Mr. Cruz to reap a number of premium awards including the Brit Award, ASCAP Awards as well as Billboard Awards.
