Machine Gun Kelly
Richard Colson Baker is a Cleveland, Ohio based up-coming rap artist who was born on April 22, 1990. His parents were missionaries and this gave him the opportunity to reside in several different places of the world such as Germany and various other states in the USA. He also lived in Egypt in his toddler years, which is the reason he also knows the Arabic language.
MGK first gained recognition from a wider audience by successfully performing at the famous Apollo Theater in Harlem and even winning first prize. He officially is the first rapper to ever achieve this. Through his first mix tapes “100 Words and Running”, “Lace Up” and “Rage Pack” and features on MTV2’s “Sucker Free Freestyle” MGK even caught the attention of one of the world’s biggest hip hop stars, P.Diddy and in August 2011 Diddy took MGK under his wing by signing him with Diddy's own Bad Boy Records, and Interscope Records.
The first official album release is planned for spring 2012 and will be titled “Lace Up” – the first single “Wild Boy” has already been dropped and features Waka Flocka Flame and his song “Invincible” is featured in the HTC ReZound advert. The young MGK’s really good, incredibly fast & sleek lyrical flow continue to heavily impress listeners in and out of Ohio and he momentarily is being considered one of the city’s rising stars. His rhymes burst out like a fire arm and this quickly earned him the stage-name Machine Gun Kelly.
The fast paced and slightly aggressive lyrics can quickly be compared to artists like Twista, but MGK yet displays a deep rhythmic, melancholic sound as known from Bone-Thugs-N-Harmony, that touches the core of the the listener. His overall style can be summarized as innovative and a breath of fresh air in Hip Hop. MTV even named him the Hottest Breakthrough MC of 2011. Due to up-coming rap musicians like MGK Ohio is beginning to develop its own Hip Hop scene.
