Ky-Mani Marley
Being the son of Reggae Legend Bob Marley, Ky-Mani Marley was almost destined to become a musician himself. He released his debut album “Like Father, Like Son” in 2006 and about a year later his musical breakthrough came with the cover of “Electric Avenue”, in which he collaborated with Fugees member Pras. Soon he was signed by Gee Street/V2 Records.
His East-African name, Ky-Mani, stands for “ever adventurous”. He, indeed, is very adventurous with his music. It is clearly audible that he is inspired as well as influenced by the various music genres. Each album and each concert is a new adventure that Ky-Mani gladly takes on. The outcome is gradually growing success outside the Reggae-scene.
His single releases all charted high on the Reggae-Charts and the album “Radio”, of 2007 even peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Reggae Charts. This gained him attention from other renowned music artists like Beenie Man, Mr. Vegas, Wyclef Jean or even Mya.
His 7th album “Evolution of a Revolution” was the first record he recorded in the world famous Tuff Gong Studios that had been opened by his late father. On this album Ky-Mani experimented with Jazz, Rock, Hip Hop and Soul as well as Reggae music, and created an incomparable sound. Ky-Mani leads us to a new age Reggae fascination with a different sound, but yet staying true to his roots. All the same, the message still remains “one love, one aim, one destiny.”
