The Def Jam Legend, Earl Simmons aka. DMX, has now been in the rap game for over 10 years. DMX rose to fame in the late 90’s. His third album release “…And Then There Was X”, which was produced by the no. 1 producers Swizz Beatz, Nokio and Irv Gotti amongst others, is up to today DMX’s best-selling one and at the same time even broke his first Billboard record. The album sold nearly 700.000 copies in its first week, immediately peaked at no. 1 on the Billboard Charts and was certified 6x-Platinum. DMX is the only rapper in history to have nearly all of his studio albums consecutively peak at no. 1 on the US Billboard Album Charts.
The only album that wasn’t no. 1 was his sixth studio album “Year of the Dog ..Again”. It “only” made it on Billboard no. 2. From day one DMX was compared to the late Hip Hop legend Tupac Shakur.
Even though he grew up under difficult circumstances, DMX never lost focus on what is important in life and turned the negative energy surrounding him into a driving force in his life. He kept on nurturing his artistic side by practicing beatboxing, rapping and ever trying to develop his own style. It wouldn’t take long until all the hard work paid off. He would participate in battles etc. until he caught the press’ attention and was highly praised in famous magazines as an “unsigned hip hop sensation”. Eventually he was signed and the breakthrough came in the late 90’s.
His highly energetic and distinguished rapping style soon also made him attractive for artists like the late Aaliyah, Eminem and even Jay Z.
In 2011 DMX performed at the BET Awards and announced his highly anticipated seventh album for 2012.
