Busta Rhymes
The New Yorcan rapper, producer and actor Trevor Tahiem Smith, Jr. first recorded an album in 1989 with his Hip Hop crew “Leaders of the New School” at the label Elektra Records. Due to his rapid rhyme-spitting, Busta Rhymes quickly gained a positive reputation in the Hip Hop scene. In March 1996 Busta released his first LP as a solo artist named “The Coming”, which included the Top 10 hit “Whoo Hah!!! Got You All in Check”.
He dropped the second LP “When Disaster Strikes” with the hit singles “Dangerous” and “Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Could See”. With these two albums he definitely gained significance in the music industry. After Busta officially left the group “Leaders of the New World”, he founded a new one in 1998 called “Flipmode Squad” with whom he released two albums over the years but also regularly featured the members on his solo projects. In 2000 he switched labels and joined J Records, where he released his fifth album “Genesis” a year later. The album featured P.Diddy, Pharell Williams, Kelis, Mary J. Blige and many more.
For his sixth album release Busta changed his label again and went to Dr. Dre’s Aftermath Entertainment. For the sake of a new image he also cut off his dreads. Due to collaborations with Will.i.am, Swizz Beatz and even Nas, he finally claimed the top spot on the Billboard Charts with the seventh LP “The Big Bang”. In 2008 he once again signed a new record deal with Universal Motown, where he released his meanwhile eighth album “Back on my B.S” with the controversial single “Arab Money”. After nominations for 11 Grammys, 10 MTV Video Music Awards and several BET Hip Hop Awards, it’s high time that Busta finally gets the rewards that he deserves.
His next LP is going to be “E.L.E (Extinction Level Event) 2: End of the World”, which is announced for 2012.
