Big Sean

Sean Michael Anderson is an American Hip Hop artist who was born March 25, 1988, in Santa Monica, CA but later on relocated to Detroit, Michigan with his family. Sean is better known by his stage name Big Sean and is the newest artist signed to Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music/Island. Big Sean’s love for art and especially music developed from an early age and his artistic disposition was nurtured all along as he attended the Detroit Waldorf School of Art, in which he was introduced to a wide range of art and culture.

He established a small fan base later on in high school because he had a weekly show at a local Hip Hop station called “WHDT” in which he’d also occasionally participate in rap battles. At the time he would distribute copies of his music by his own means.

At one point in 2005 he had heard that Kanye West was in town and guest at 102.7 FM. Thus Sean hurried to the radio station and eventually managed to face Kanye and performed spontaneously for Kanye who seemed to approve what he was hearing. Sean handed Kanye demo tapes and ended up getting signed with Kanye’s label two years later.
"I wasn't signing acts at that time. But I was so inspired by what he did. His voice was very compelling. His lyrics were very clever and the melodies and the way he was putting it together and his story. So it's not that easy, but it's a lot of people who rap who aren't as dope," Kanye said.

Sean successfully released the mix tape “Finally Famous: The Mixtape” in September 2007 and three years later he dropped two more. His third mix tape even featured sophisticated artists like Bun B, Drake and Mike Posner. The fourth mix tape’s main purpose was to prepare people for Big Sean’s first studio album “Finally Famous”, which hit the stores on June 28, 2011. The lead single is called "My Last" and featured Chris Brown's vocals. The song did well in the US Charts, making it to the top of the Billboard Rap Charts.

Overall the album featured a significant number of great names. Hip Hop heavyweights such as Kanye, Nas, Pharell Williams made it one of the most anticipated Hip Hop records of 2011. The album peaked at Nr. 3 on the US Billboard 200, No. 2 on the US R&B/Hip Hop Charts and Mr. 1 on the US Rap Charts.
