Angie Stone
From an early age on singing has played a significant role in Angie Stone’s life. She was born and raised in Columbia, South Carolina. Known by the name Angie B she is one of the first artists ever to discover Rap for herself.
Stone first gained fame in the early 80’s as a member of the Hip Hop group “The Sequence”. The band was considered as one of the first female groups in that genre of music and scored a hit with “Funk You Up”, which was released in 1980. Later on Stone joined the R&B-Trio “Vertical Hold”.
Besides that she diligently continued to envince her talent behind the scenes by touring with Lenny Kravitz and penning songs for Mary J. Blige and SWV.
1999 Stone first drew attention to herself as a solo artist with the release of the album “Black Diamond” (co-produced by D’Angelo & Lenny Kravitz). The successful and critically acclaimed album even scored a grammy nomination. After changing her record label she realeased “Mahagony Soul” under J Records in 2001 and eventually also “Stone Love” in 2004. Furthermore her Best-Of-Album “Stone Hits” has remained a commercial success since the first release in November 2005. In 2006 Angie appeared back on the screen with “The Art of Love & War” after suffering health issues.
Her impressive vocal abilities and guest vocal performances of high-quality artists such as Betty Wright & James Ingram helped the album be the success of the year.
